On Friday, Feb. 21, Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) Director General Alessandro Costa participated in the conference “ITALY 2075: The Impact of Climate Change and the Transformation of the Territory,” organized by Ance Veneto Giovani at Palazzo Franchetti under the sponsorship of VSF.
During his speech, Costa outlined VSF’s role in addressing the challenges related to climate change and urban sustainability in Venice. A central theme of the conference, as emphasized by Ance Veneto Giovani President Lisa Grosso, was the unique value of Venice as a model of climate adaptation and a laboratory for new urban sustainability solutions.
In his speech, Costa recalled that VSF was founded on March 14, 2022 with the aim of responding to Venice’s main urban sustainability challenges and transforming them into development opportunities. The Foundation acts as a facilitator and accelerator of projects, promoting synergies among its members and supporting the transition from the planning stage to concrete implementation.
In recent years, VSF has expanded its reach to the entire Veneto region, as evidenced by high-impact initiatives such as the Venice H2 Forum and the “From the Lagoon to the Moon” Report, both of which are geared toward generating benefits on a regional scale.
VSF is also actively engaged at the international level, contributing to the global dialogue on urban sustainability. Venice, in fact, is recognized as a Resilience Hub within the MCR2030 – UNDRR partnership, and the Foundation’s initiatives provide a concrete example for other cities facing similar challenges.
Concluding his speech, Costa reiterated VSF’s commitment to outlining a sustainable development scenario for Venice, integrating the perspectives and expertise of its members to build a more resilient and innovative future for the city.
