“As the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, rightly said, ‘Venice is a wonder of the world.’ And I add, echoing the words of Braudel, ‘Venice, a global city. The oldest city of the future.'” This is how the President of the Venice Sustainability Foundation, Renato Brunetta, expressed himself on the sidelines of the event featuring the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von Der Leyen.
The President arrived in Venice today for her first visit and was a guest at Iuav for the “Radical yet possible future space solutions,” a collateral event of the 18th Architecture Biennale promoted by the New European Bauhaus in partnership with the Venetian university. On this occasion, she spoke about climate change and the need to make common thinking more sustainable: “The damages that humans have caused to the climate are visible here in Venice. We must slow down the events and therefore the rise of sea levels. We can avoid the worst-case scenario, but everything depends on the speed at which we act. We must do everything we can to combat climate change and reduce its impacts.”
