The side event of the Biennale della Sostenibilità 2023 – The MOSE Era brought to light a number of solutions to enable sustainable port operations. At the Procuratie Vecchie, in the headquarters of The human safety net, the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority – Ports of Venice and Chioggia organized the conference, “Port Development and Lagoon Protection: a sustainable balance is already possible.”
After introductory greetings by Filippo Marini, commander of the Port of Venice, Massimiliano De Martin, city planning councilor of the City of Venice, and Elisa De Berti, vice president of the regional government, the work went into detail.
Some of the results of the project “Channeling the Green Deal for Venice” were thus exposed. First the morphology of the lagoon was studied, integrating hydrodynamics, navigation and infrastructure, then an immersive, three-dimensional environment was created to understand what lies beneath the lagoon. Finally, a navigation simulation was carried out. This showed that the main levers to work on are speed abatement and bank protection with morphological structures to reduce erosion.
