Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) organized today at the Museo del ‘900 – M9 the conference “Circular Venice: policy, practice and innovation in comparison”. During the event, organized with the Veneto Region, the City of Venice, ACR+ and the Fondazione di Venezia, the theme of circular economy and its many facets and applications on the regional and international territory were discussed, thanks to the involvement of local institutions, international experts and academia.

“Talking about circular economy also means accepting the great challenge of efficient and sustainable use of the limited resources available, a challenge that affects all of society and it is particularly felt in Venice, where any reflection on the economy and the environment must also take into account such a fragile and complex environmental dimension and a unique history in the world”, began VSF President Renato Brunetta.

The event then got into full swing, with the Veneto Region presenting the update of the Regional Urban and Special Waste Management Plan and the actions attributable to the regional Green Public Procurement (GPP) strategy. These also include for 2024 the awarding of the “Compraverde Veneto” Prize for Contracting Stations and Enterprises, now in its seventh edition, whose calls for proposals aim to enhance and disseminate good practices in green procurement, the best initiatives for the circular economy, and experiment with innovative approaches to sustainability. Finally, the Memorandum of Understanding for the definition of operational proposals for the implementation of the circular economy in Veneto’s productive sectors, signed by the Region, the Universities of Padua, Venice and Verona and Arpav, was presented.

For the first time in the country, the Digital Product Passport was publicly presented, a measure that will come into effect from January 2024 throughout the EU, changing the production paradigm and consumers’ purchasing habits.

Finally, the practices used in the area were compared with international realities such as Barcelona, Dublin and Lisbon.
