Communications director of the Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF), Tania Schiavon, opened the second day of the “Forum of Possibilities.” The event, titled “Water Intelligence Regenerates Venice,” is sponsored by VSF and organized by Sumus Venezia between November 19 and 20, 2024 at The Home of The Human Safety Net at the Procuratie Vecchie di San Marco.
It was an opportunity to present the Foundation, the desire to generate a new model of sustainable development for Venice and its surrounding area, all according to an approach that aims to revitalize the socioeconomy, becoming a reference point that can inspire other national realities. The communications director outlined VSF’s operating methods, clarifying the nine areas of interest and cross-cutting projects. During her speech, she then expressed VSF’s role as a facilitator to promote projects proposed by the public and private members that make up the Foundation’s partnership.
Next, the panel titled “Venice & the Lagoon: a long history of resilience and innovation” featured VSF project manager Damiano De Marchi, who offered his reflection on how Venice, through its points of fragility, has transformed an unstable and brackish territory into one of the most beautiful and visited places in the world. De Marchi pointed out that VSF wants to put people at the center of an innovative redefinition that will bring the city back to sustainable development and not a mere “backdrop for a selfie to share on social media”.
During the same panel, De Marchi also moderated a debate on the concept of resilience that featured writer Alberto Toso Fei; Venice City Councilor for Social Cohesion, Tourism and Economic Development Simone Venturini; Maria Claudia Pignata, managing director of VeniSIA; and Corrado Fischer, COO of SAVE Group.
