On Tuesday, September 24, the Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) took part at the closing event of Start.Hub, the project of the Iuav University of Venice aimed at supporting the establishment of new entrepreneurial realities characterized by principles of sustainability, circular economy, careful use of resources, and adaptation to climate changes.
Since its launch in 2019, the project has involved 350 students and generated 190 startup ideas, 6 of which have already become university spin-offs.
In the 2024 edition, after eight months of training, the 15 participants, divided into 8 teams, presented their innovative proposals during a pitch competition in front of a jury of experts.
Among the members of the jury was Luca Farina, project manager of VSF, who awarded the “Sustainability Award” to the Wa.Less team, a group of students from the Iuav University of Venice, whose name combines the concepts of “Wasteless”and “whale,” symbolizing a great ability to suck up and collect materials.
The project presented by Wa.Less consists of the development of an innovative prototype floating trash can, designed to collect plastics from water basins by harnessing natural currents and eddies.
Start.Hub is part of the larger Start Venice UP accelerator program, in which VSF is a network partner.
