The Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) took part today, April 14, at the World Expo 2025 Osaka, within the Italy Pavilion, where Venice will feature prominently during the inaugural week.
On Monday, April 14, VSF’s Director General Alessandro Costa participated at the round table discussion “Lagoon, Port Activities, Sustainability,” alongside representatives from the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority – Ports of Venice and Chioggia, the Lagoon Authority, and Confindustria Veneto Est.
The meeting focused on key issues concerning the sustainability of the Venetian lagoon system, particularly in relation to ecological transition, environmental protection, and the development of port activities.
During the event, Costa presented VSF, established with the goal of contributing to the sustainability of the Venetian area by promoting an integrated development model that virtuously combines environmental, economic, social, and cultural dimensions.
“We are in Osaka to present the meaning and activities of VSF – a unique entity in both the national and international landscape”, explained Costa. “An instrument dedicated to sustainable development, distinguished by its multidisciplinary approach and its ability to activate networks, fostering dialogue between local and global players through the creation of a broad public-private partnership”.
“Our goal”, he continued, “is to make Venice a global benchmark, capable of integrating economic development and environmental protection to enhance quality of life. Now that the MOSE system ensures the physical protection of the city and the lagoon from sea-level rise for the coming decades, we have the opportunity to plan a future grounded in the principles of sustainable development. VSF was created precisely for this purpose: to contribute to accelerating environmental, economic, and social transitions, guiding the territory along a transformation path compatible with its carrying capacity. Participation in the World Expo in Osaka represents a crucial opportunity to share this vision and to present, on an international stage, our commitment to building a sustainable development model based on collaboration, project-driven action, and long-term vision”.
