The Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) will host an assessment workshop on Monday, July 15, on the monitoring tool built by UNDRR (United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction) to ascertain the degree of cultural heritage protection in the lagoon city.
Venice is being called upon to express itself in its role as a Resilience hub under the Making cities resilient 2030 program, which aims to create an experience-sharing network in order to achieve higher degrees of resilience around the globe. The recognition given to Venice by the United Nations came with the announcement by Paola Albrito, UNDRR Director, during the Biennale of Sustainability 2023 – The Mose Era event titled “Resilient cultural heritage: protecting cultural heritage from rising seas” organized by the Venice World Capital of Sustainability Foundation (VSF).
On July 15 twenty experts involved in the protection of cultural heritage in the territory of Venice will meet at the VSF headquarters to: jointly assess the correctness of the questionnaire constructed by UNDRR, check its consistency or suggest changes, and finally, to understand what is the current situation of Venice in responding to the risks produced by climate change.
Representatives of the City of Venice, Veneto Region, Iuav University of Venice, Ca’ Foscari University, Order of Engineers, Venice State Archives, Italian Institute of Technology, Venice Civic Museums Foundation, Cini Foundation, Europa Nostra and Corila will have their say on the questionnaire, each according to their area of expertise. A task that falls to each of the 27 Resilience hubs appointed by the office.
The goal is to have the final version and results expressed by the conference entitled “Europe and Central Asia regional platform for disaster risk reduction (efdrr.undrr.org)” scheduled for Nov. 6-8 in Montenegro.
