Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) is in Baku to follow the work of COP29. The 29th. Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change is being held in Azerbaijan this year and opened on November 11. A series of conferences and talks related to the theme of environmental sustainability from both social and economic perspectives will take place until November 22.
VSF Director General Alessandro Costa on November 2024, 3:30-5 p.m. (local time), at the Baku Olympic Stadium will take part in the conference “The Venice Paradigm: Strategies for Adaptation to Sea Level Rise and Disaster Risk Reduction” organized by the Foundation. The initiative, a side event of the Italian Pavilion, is part of the official program of the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
The appointment will be an opportunity to tell about the paradigm shift affecting Venice, appointed in 2023 resilience hub of the UNDRR (the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction): the city, traditionally seen as a place to protect, is now proposed, thanks to the interventions to protect against rising seas, as a model of defense against the effects of climate change.
The initiative aims to disseminate the good practices developed and implemented in Venice, of which the most evident element is the MOSE system, stimulating a constructive dialogue with the international community and consolidating the role of the Venetian territory as a laboratory of innovative solutions for adaptation to climate change, in particular by protecting the environmental and cultural heritage.
