SUMMARY:Hydrogen value chain in Veneto region: state of the art and development perspectivess
DESCRIPTION:For attendance details contact: alessandro.scardino@vsf.foundation \nThanks to its storing and transporting capability\, thus addressing intermittent renewable sources limitations\, hydrogen plays an increasingly evident role in the transition to an economy in line with Net Zero carbon emission targets. Given their progressive maturation\, technologies based on this energy carrier – including hydrogen fuels – can play an important role in decarbonizing energy-intensive industrial and transportation sectors. \nThe conference aims to present the results of the report “Mapping competences and H2 demand in Veneto”\, edited by Boston Consulting Group with the coordination of Regione del Veneto with the contribution of the Foundation’s Members. Evidence will be analysed\, by stimulating the dialogue between public and private\, national\, and international actors\, to assess the development and prospects of the sector and to identify strategic opportunities for a hydrogen supply chain in Veneto\, centred in Porto Marghera. \n \n\n\nDocuments\n– Agenda  \n\n– Speakers’ bios \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Balancing Port development and Lagoon preservation: achieving a sustainable equilibrium is already possible
DESCRIPTION:On September 21\, 2023\, the event “Balancing Port Development and Lagoon Preservation: achieving a Sustainable Equilibrium is already possible\,” a side event of the Bienniale della Sostenibilità 2023 – The MOSE era\, was held\, during which the results of the study “Channeling the Green Deal for Venice\,” a project of the North Adriatic Sea Port Authority\, were presented. \nThe project addresses the problem of the limited nautical accessibility to the ports of Venice and Chioggia by seeking scientific and operational solutions respecting the natural constraints\, the hydrodynamic balance of the lagoon\, the local water traffic\, and the MoSE mobile dyke system. These specificities required studies conducted with an innovative approach that can be replicated in other contexts\, integrating for the first time in Italy hydrodynamic and navigation simulation models in an iterative manner. \nDuring the event\, it was recounted how the evidence and technical-scientific data collected during the studies showed how it is already possible\, through targeted management and infrastructural solutions\, to increase port performance in terms of operability and navigation safety\, while reducing the effects of the transit of ships in the Malamocco-Marghera canal by more than 50% of the annual volume of sediment eroded by ship traffic. \nTo view the event program click here.

SUMMARY:Protecting coastal cities from sea level rise
DESCRIPTION:More than two-thirds of the world’s major cities are coastal cities\, vulnerable to sea-level rise and extreme weather events. \nThe aim of the conference is to deepen\, with an eye that embraces the entire planet\, the present and future sustainability of adaptation measures to the rise of sea level in the urban context; through a comparison with worldwide realities. \nThe event will showcase the protective measures implemented in Venice for historical buildings\, residential areas\, and urban spaces. It will encourage discussions and exchanges with other European cities\, emphasising the value of both spontaneous and institutional networks that develop among urban centers. \nMore information will be published soon.

SUMMARY:The MOSE and others: sea-storme defenses across the world
DESCRIPTION:MOSE as a worldwide best practice for protecting cities from rising seas and tidal phenomena is the theme of the meeting opening the Sustainability Biennial. In fact\, the MOSE system\, accompanied by a wide range of other measures implemented in the lagoon and the islands of the littoral\, will effectively defend Venice from October 2020. \nOn this occasion\, the path taken in recent years that has made Venice a safer city and a model for others around the world facing similar problems will be presented. \nOther defense systems in Europe and around the world will also be presented\, and their operational experience will be discussed in a workshop involving those directly responsible for their management and international experts. \nThe agenda will be completed with the interventions of authoritative representatives of local\, national and European institutions. \nParticipation in this event is by invitation. \nThe conference is produced with the support of The European House – Ambrosetti\, Consorzio Venezia Nuova\, CORILA and Ve.La S.p.A.
